The annual Heavitree Shield was held on Saturday 31st August with visiting teams from Starcross, Exonia, Belmont, Phear Park and St Thomas taking part. The tournament took its usual format with the visiting teams playing all of the Heavitree teams in a round robin competition.

The winners on the previous two occasions had been Phear Park but the sequence was broken this year when, for the first time for a number of years, the Shield was won by a team from Heavitree. The team was led by skip Derek Parsons with Graham Ewings, Peter Smith and Barbara Harrison and they finished clear winners with a score of +23 shots. The Heavitree team led by Scott Foot finished second.

Before the competition started, a Spider competition was held with each bowler bowling one wood towards a bottle of brandy in the centre of the green. The bowler finishing closest to the brandy was our own - oldest - club member, Derek Batey.
