On Friday 16th August, a mixture of 32 playing and social members set off by coach for the 2024 tour where we were based in the beautiful village of Market Bosworth. We stayed in the Bosworth Hall Hotel and on the Saturday morning, set off to play against the team from the village of Quorn but first of all detouring to spend a couple of hours in the town of Loughborough with its Saturday Market.

The match proved to be close with Heavitree going down to a narrow defeat, winning on 2 of the 5 rinks. The Sunday saw a reversal of fortune when we played the local Market Bosworth club, a short 5 minutes walk from the hotel. Heavitree won on 3 of the 5 rinks to secure a narrow victory.

We left the hotel on the Monday morning to drive to Cheltenham where we played Cheltenham Spa Bowling Club who were celebrating their centenary. On this occasion, despite winning on 3 of the 5 rinks, Heavitree went down to a narrow overall defeat.

The tour really was a great success with very warm and friendly receptions at all three of the Bowling Clubs we visited and competitive matches played in exactly the right spirit. We are indebted to our President, Brian Parker, for the tremendous amount of work he put in to ensure the success of the tour and he has already put in hand plans for the 2025 tour for which details will follow.
